Who is Adwoa Aboah?

Who is Adwoa Aboah?

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Adwoa Aboah was the cover model of choice for Vogue’s new Editor Edward Enninful. The revolutionary cover shot was revealed earlier this week and we are totally in love with it! Therefore, we thought we would give you the lowdown on the beautiful Adwoa.

Adwoa was born into fashion, her mother Camilla Lowther being one of the world’s most successful fashion agents. Adwoa’s career as a model kick started with her first Italian Vogue cover. Since then she’s built up her career as a highly successful model, working alongside the likes of industry big names Gigi Hadid and Winnie Harlow. She even won the prestigious Model of the Year title in December. However, there is more to this quirky model than meets the eye.

Besties with Cara Delevingne, Adwoa has become an inspiration to many through launching her online community Gurls Talk; a platform for young women to discuss subjects such as sex, feminism, mental health and social media in a safe space. The community started on Instagram back in 2015.

Adwoa’s own experiences prompted her to initiate the online community. The 25-year-old has battled with both drug and alcohol abuse and suffered with depression and bipolar disorder- the combination of which tragically lead to two overdoses, one being a suicide attempt that left the model in a coma for four days.

Now sober, she uses her past experience to enhance the future of others. In an interview with The Evening Standard, she spoke out about utilising personal experience to raise awareness: “Having got through it- it’s 100 percent my responsibility to use it for something bigger and to be one of many voices for people who might not have someone to talk to or understand what’s going on”.

Her work with Gurls Talk won her the title of  GQ’s 2017 Woman of the Year award. We certainly think she is a very deserving winner!
